Things to Do After the Session

The Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) provides extensive and in-depth insights about individual and group levels of intercultural competence. This is accomplished through sophisticated, customized individual IDI profile reports and group IDI profile reports. These reports present valid, quantitative information that integrates qualitative information about how an individual or group engages cultural difference in day-to-day interactions with others.

The IDI assesses intercultural competence through a 50-item questionnaire (available online); it can be completed in 15 to 20 minutes. The IDI also includes contextual questions that allow respondents to describe their intercultural experiences in terms of (a) their cross-cultural goals, (b) the challenges they face navigating cultural differences, (c) critical (intercultural) incidents they face when they encounter cultural differences, and (d) the ways they navigate those cultural differences. Responses to these questions provide a cultural grounding for relating IDI profile scores to the actual experiences of the individual. After individuals complete the IDI, each person’s responses to the 50 items are analyzed and reports prepared; these reports include respondents’ written answers to the contextual questions. Then each person taking the IDI participates in a confidential, 45-minute debriefing conversation to understand his/her own results and to review his/her own customized Intercultural Development Plan® (IDP®). A  full description of the IDI is available here.

After your EECoP Portland meeting, each participant will be sent an individual email link to the IDI questionnaire. Please complete and submit your feedback on or before March 31, 2019. A block of time has been reserved for your 45-minute individual debriefing conversation with Ali Webb, a trained IDI administrator and consultant to KHA Inc. Please use this Doodle poll to indicate your availability.

If you have questions regarding the IDI, please contact Ali Webb at aliwebb3@gmail.com
